Mobile Net Schwechat: Broadband Technology Over a Wide Area.
As part of the Mobile Net Schwechat project, the firm LOOP21 Mobile Net GmbH is setting up a broadband Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) based on 2,4 and 5,0 GHz technology to cover the public area of Schwechat town. At least 18 transmitting stations (a further extension is planned) will be established within a meshed network.
Mobile Net Schwechat aims to offer very economical broadband Internet wirelessly to all those who live and work in Schwechat as well as mobile services like mobile content (accessible also via WLAN enabling mobile phones), voice over IP (voIP), location based services, wireless CCTV and others.
This wireless data network, which is new to Austria in the area it will cover, will as a further step – as has also been shown in international model projects – lead to a need for new, innovative applications of software and hardware.
airNET Schwechat works with this as a nucleus for projects in the following areas: eHealthcare / eHomecare, eGovernment / eVoting / eAdministration, eTraffic, eLearning, Video on demand etc. and in so doing directly supports the foundation of new firms in Schwechat, as well as firms moving to the town.
