Schwechat: Austria’s Gate to the World.
Schwechat, a town with some 16.000 inhabitants, lies directly south east of Vienna, adjoining the Austrian capital and within its conurbation. With
Vienna International Airport within its municipality, Schwechat is "Austria’s gate to the world".
Schwechat, although rich in history, is today a modern industrial town home to several leading concerns, such as:
Air Liquid
Austrian Airlines
Austro Control
Borealis
Brau Union
Concorde Businesspark (with some 50 companies employing around 800 people)
Vienna International Airport
Lauda Air
Nissan Austria
OMV
Head Tyrolia Mares
Volvo Austria
Apart from an interesting location for companies, Schwechat also has a great deal to offer people themselves:
Several hotels, a large number of restaurants, cafés and "Heurigen" (traditional wine taverne) invite you to while away the hours and enjoy yourself. For the education of the young, there are several child care facilities (kindergartens, nurseries and after-school care clubs), fine publicly run primary and secondary schools (including the
European Secondary Modern School Schwechat (Europahauptschule Schwechat Frauenfeld) and the
Schwechat grammar school (Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium)), as well as
academia nova, offering Dual Bachelor studies and extra occupational technical highschool studies. In addition to its many general practitioners and specialist doctors there is also plenty of home help, domestic care and social care, all of which means that the town offers the best in health care. The nearest hospital is very close by, in the neighbouring municipality of Vienna. Schwechat is also very concerned with care for the elderly.
Measured on buying power per capita, Schwechat – with more than 20.000 workplaces – is one of the wealthiest municipalities in Austria.
